about

2018 ‘Gore’ a biopic about Gore Vidal, starring Kevin Spacey.

Unceremoniously dumped before its release, by Netflix alongside ‘House of Cards’, amidst unproven allegations about Spacey’s behaviour. Whatever you think about Spacey, a movie is a collaboration involving more than a hundred people. Why cancel a whole film on this basis? Those of us who are self-employed rely on the awareness and availability of our work for our livelihoods, our reputations.

The movie, directed by Michael Hoffman, is wonderful. Set in and around Gore Vidal’s villa ‘La Rondinaia’ in Ravello, Italy, it has an amazing central performance by Spacey and supporting cast, Michael Stuhlbarg, Griffin Dunne, Douglas Booth and Nikolai Kinski.

I scored Michael’s earlier film ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. For ‘Gore’, he specifically asked me to compose a sometimes quirky, sometimes lush, romantic Italian score in the style of Nino Rota. I think it’s one of my very best. Not that anyone’s heard it of course. Until now!
