about

‘Alien Love Triangle’ Directed by Danny Boyle, this 30 minute film was intended to be the first of three connected segments making up an anthology feature. The script was by John Hodge who wrote ‘Shallow Grave’ and adapted ‘Trainspotting’

‘Alien Love Triangle’ had a stellar cast:

Kenneth Branagh, Courtney Cox and Heather Graham.

The first segment was shot at the old Elstree film studios in Borehamwood, edited by Tariq Unwar (American Beauty and The King’s Speech) and scored by myself, recorded at Air Studios.

It was made with Miramax Films. I have good reasons to dislike and mistrust Miramax boss, Harvey Weinstein. He interfered very negatively with my career (and many others) at several points. For some unknown reason, Harvey decided to turn the second and third segments into full length, standalone feature films, ‘MIMIC’ and ‘IMPOSTER’, leaving our 30 minute segment totally screwed. Mystifying. It has remained on the shelf ever since.

With the music, Danny and I set ourselves a challenge: to make a cool score, but feature the most unlistenable instrument ever used on a soundtrack without resorting to bagpipes 😁Tough call. We settled on Steel Drums which, trust me, may be fine as they drift past you and into the distance at a carnival. It’s another matter when they’re front and centre and inescapable. But I managed to find the UK’s only orchestral steel drum player. And she sounded as cool as you can whilst wacking bits of metal with a stick.
